Update As Consultation Nears Conclusion

As the 31st Dec deadline for comments approaches we wanted to take this opportunity to reiterate our sincere thanks to everybody who has input their views - to date we have received over 200 contributions from 77 respondents.

Although a large number of comments relate to concerns about the A4175 Keynsham Rd, Ring Road Path & Railway Path, the consultation heatmap shows we have also received many other valuable comments on a wide range of issues and locations in the area.

Like everybody we want to see these comments lead to positive action to improve the active travel network, although it is appreciated that the more significant proposed improvements will take time to investigate and, if feasible, potentially implement. That said we will continue to press for the smaller less costly measures to be actioned as soon as possible.

Since the last news update the local Cycling & Walking Steering Group has continued to grow and now has members from across the area, focused on working together across local boundaries to develop an integrated cycling/walking network. Please feel free to join future meetings (currently being held on Zoom) – details can be found on the Oldland Parish Council website – http://oldlandparishcouncil.co.uk/community/parish-council/cycling-walking-initiative/

Other news - South Glos Council have undertaken an assessment of the Keynsham Rd shared path and plan to carry out more extensive vegetation ground clearance to maximise the path width. However, recognising that further improvements are needed on this route, a meeting is planned in January with key stakeholders to discuss how best to progress this issue, including the potential to create a high quality segregated pathway.

Also, as a direct result of comments received South Glos Council have proposed improvements to the Ring Road Path infrastructure (e.g. cycle/pedestrian friendly bollards/signage; barrier visibility improvements, etc.) and funding is currently being sought for these measures.

Recent reports of incidents on the Railway Path have clearly reinforced concerns received through this consultation and further strengthened the call to implement safety related improvements on this increasingly busy pathway. Work is continuing to propose improvements and seek funding opportunities.

News of further active travel progress and developments will be posted on this news feed and on the Oldland Parish Council website.

Wishing you all a safe & happy Christmas, and a healthy, peaceful & active 2021.

Oldland Parish Active Travel Consultation Launched

The online consultation website is now open to receive your comments at https://oldlandactivetravel.commonplace.is/

Oldland Parish Council has set up a Walking & Cycling Steering Group to progress a plan to make Walking & Cycling the preferred means for getting around locally and connecting to wider networks. The aim is to provide a safer and more attractive walking and cycling network for everybody in the community and thereby encourage more people to swap car use for walking and cycling for many of those local journeys.

Ensure this reflects Your Views and the needs of The Whole Community

Use the link above to access the Oldland Parish Active Travel Consultation. Say where you feel improvements are needed to make Walking & Cycling safer, more attractive, and convenient, include where improvements can be made to form better links with neighbouring areas. This could range from reporting overgrown vegetation to suggesting more major changes to road junctions or crossings. The closing date for comments is 23rd Oct 2020.

Oldland Parish includes the areas of Barrs Court, Cadbury Heath, Longwell Green. Willsbridge and Wraxall Road area. The consultation website has an interactive map showing the Oldland Parish area.
